A NEW ERA

LATEST !

The SPCA JB AGM was held on 18th April 2006 and the new committee for the next two years is as stated on the side bar to the left.

SPCA JB has a started a new era when its LOGO was approved in November 2005. The logo shows a dog and a cat, animals commonly abused and a blue circle to show unity of purpose to defend the voice-less creatures.

SPCA JB now has a well defined Vision & Mission statement as follows :

VISION

WE LEAD
IN BRINGING ABOUT
A SOCIAL CONSCIOUSNESS OF
LIVING IN HARMONY
WITH AND
RESPECT FOR ANIMALS

MISSION

BY PUBLICITY ELEVATE THE CONSCIOUSNESS OF PEOPLE TO RECOGNISE THE RIGHTS OF ANIMALS TO LIVE IN PEACE AND HARMONY WITH HUMANS

BY HELPING TO CARE FOR THE DISADVANTAGED AND HOMELESS ANIMALS. TO RE-HOME OR TO DISPOSE THEM IN A HUMANE WAY

To this end, SPCA JB is focusing on providing INFORMATION. Its a battle for the mind. People need to know that animals have rights too. People need to know that PREVENTION (spaying & neutering) is BETTER than the CURE (shelters).

Cruelty begins in the mind. For whatever warped reasons people may have for treating animals cruelly, they need to know that there is a price to pay. Unfortunately our local laws are 'toothless' where animal cruelty is concerned. We are joining with other SPCAs around the country to collect signatures in a campaign to request the Government to raise the maximum penalty for animal cruelty.

Malaysia is a multi-racial, multi-cultural country with a variety of views on animal control. Some do not believe in putting down animals. Some do not believe in spaying or neutering their pets. These are the the challenges we face in our effort to reduce strays.

Mahatma Ghandi said "The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated". We need to teach the young about the role of animals in the lives. We need volunteers from the teachers fraternity to spearhead this.

We want to be the voice of pet lovers to the authorities so that their grievances can be heard. We are happy we have a listening Government that is also seeking to raise the standards of pet ownership.
